Customers; A Great Appreciation

My customers, aside from some of the neat things I get to experience, are truly why I love my job. Looking back at my work history I realized that creating relationships and getting to know my customers has always kept me highly motivated.

I had a list of stops I wanted to make today, mainly to existing accounts to again remind them that I’m thinking of them, I care, and, I am continually grateful for their business. A good sales mindset to keep is that you must re-win your customers everyday, because everyday someone else could come in and woo them away. I only ended up making it to a few stops. Maybe due to it being a holiday week, everyone was extra social. After speaking with them extensively about goings on, life plans, current events, and the like, I concluded the day feeling very motivated. On my drive home I thought about how much I love them. I love that they are real Americans. They usually aren’t large corporations, but mom and pop owned business. Sometimes husband and wife duos and others father-son. These people are involved in their communities and have spent their entire lives there. They tend to be conservative and traditional. I am touched when they ask me about my life and get excited to hear about some of the things I have going on, especially when they offer up advice.

One man stuck out in particular today. He is a retired police offer and possibly a veteran who now owns a small trucking company. When I asked if he had any plans for the holiday he said he was working. Apparently, he also devotes 6am-6pm every Saturday and Sunday to a GPS/Surveillance security company (I am not sure if he owns it). I asked him when his days off were and he said “today” as he diligently wrote out checks to his vendors. A true hardworking American.

I could only hope to be that active as I age and that devoted to my work.

I will continue to try to learn as much as I can about my customers and listen to all they have to say. When you really care it shows.
